Roaming Roots

"What we need is food grown with care, by and for people who care." -Jean-Martin Fortier

Roaming Roots is a 160 acre family farm in Treaty 1 territory, southwest Manitoba. Using nature as a blueprint, we focus on environmentally friendly, permaculture farming practices. We manage an organic garden and rotationally grazed, pasture raised animals.

We are here for those that enjoy seasonality and food grown closer to home.

Know Your Farmer

Veronica

Veronica grew up in southwest Manitoba on a pasture raised dairy farm, only minutes from our current farm. Growing up with home grown and raised food just outside her front door built a foundation for what food could be. After university, Veronica found herself in the states for work. The farm never stopped tugging at her heart though. She has been so happy to be back working with the land.

Sarah

Sarah grew up in a small city in the states, a far cry from farm living. Growing up, Sarah's parents exposed her to as much food straight from farmers as they could. After experiencing some health hurdles, Sarah rediscovered a passion for fresh, nutritionally dense foods. She has loved the chance to grow/raise her own food and have enough to share with the community.

Know Your Food

Permaculture Garden: Our organic garden has 4 plots with 8 rows each, plus NOA (north of the asparagus) and SOA (south of the asparagus) sections. Each row is a permanent raised bed measuring 30 inches wide by 65 feet long with 16 inch walkways between each beds.

Pasture Raised Poultry: Moving the animals daily around the land allows for new grazing opportunities, landscape healing, and naturally healthy animals.

What's Happening on the Farm

Pasture Raised Poultry

Roaming Roots offers pasture raised turkey, chicken, and duck. We also have our egg layers on pasture with a mobile coop.

Frozen whole birds are ready for purchase.

Farm Report

The farm is in full winter mode. The garden has been put to rest, animals have gone, and life slows down. We will spend the winter preparing and planning for spring. We look forward to applying our new knowledge next season.

Farm Stand
